Aegerter works hard, Mulhauser learns

27.09.2013

The first day of free practice for the Grand Prix in MotorLand Aragon this Sunday started off under a blazing sun and left Dominique Aegerter (15th ), the Technomax-carXpert rider, with some unanswered questions. Replacing Randy Krummenacher - new medical checks showed that he suffered serious concussion in a his accident in free practice for the British GP - Robin Mulhauser from Fribourg had a positive first day as a GP rider, making a progress on every lap to a great satisfaction of the Swiss' team's manager Fred Corminboeuf: "Robin is a smart boy, he does not get carried away, he is eager to learn. Being in the Moto2 peloton having only completed some 30 laps of discovery on the circuit of Castellet is not easy. But he is doing everything right at this moment."

Dominique Aegerter (15th): "I improved by 7 tenths this afternoon compared to the first session in the morning, however, the gap between the provisional best lap time (1,212 seconds) is still very significant. We still need to find some solutions regarding the bike set-up, I have difficulties entering certain corners. This track in Aragon is one of the most complex on the calendar, with fast sectors, its "corkscrew" aka Laguna Seca, and some very slow corners. We have to make a step forward on Saturday. My objective is to qualify on one of the first three lines (Top-9) to target a Top-4 finish on Sunday."

Robin Mulhauser (32nd): "Everything is new for me. There is a huge amount of things to grasp, mainly the use of the clutch, the braking system that has nothing to do with a stock bike that I'm used to riding in the European championship. This is where I struggled the most this morning so it is no surprise that I came off the ideal line several times. But I do have some reserve, I don't want to speed things up. My objective is to keep making a progress all weekend (1,7-second improvement between the first and the second session), because coming from a European Superstock 600 championship to the world Moto2 championship I realise that I skipped a few phases. So, I need to be patient. But how great this is!"
