Krummenacher confident, Aegerter doubts

12.07.2013

The great story of the current Swiss road racing may well continue this weekend in Sachsenring: with Thomas Lüthi's podium finish in Catalunya, followed by a superb podium for Dominique Aegerter in Assen only two weeks ago, it is now Randy Krummenacher, the other Technomag-carXpert rider, who is growing stronger. On this track, where he has some great memories - 4th position in 2011, his personal best achievement in the Moto2 category, the talented rider from Zurich was classified 7th fastest in today's free practice. This first day of the grand prix weekend was more difficult for the hero from Assen as Dominique Aegerter could not manage better than a 23rd position in today's classification, where the gaps between riders are minimal (Domi is 1.170 off the pace). On Sunday, he will ride with a special "German GP" helmet.

Randy Krummenacher (7th): "This morning I struggled a bit to find my marks on this track that is much narrower than the others. Things have significantly improved in the afternoon from the technical point of view and also in terms of my riding. I know that I have to and that I can push even harder. But what is the most important today is that we have found a set-up that helps to save our tyres as much as possible. That is usually the key to success in Sachsenring; two years ago it was because I was considerate of my tyres at the beginning of the race that I could keep fighting until the end and gain so may positions, while my rivals were fighting to stay on the track. At the end of the session I was riding behind Pol Espargaró (3rd fastest today) and I concluded that he was pushing much more to the limit than I was. It is also true, however, that he is full of confidence."

Dominique Aegerter (23rd): "We didn't find a solution. It is easy to say but difficult to accept; I was faster in the morning than in the afternoon, which is a sign of a real problem. We took an opposite direction that did not work any better. It is impossible to push to the limit if the bike does not give a sufficient feedback. I am losing half a second on the Top-10, I have consistent lap times but the gap is still there. That is to say that we have some serious work to do on Saturday."
