Mulhauser enjoys himself, Lecuona continues to learn

12.11.2016

The motorcycle world championship season will finish on Sunday, on the circuit Ricardo Tormo in Cheste, close to Valencia (Spain). Thomas Lüthi (Garage Plus Interwetten), who is in a great position in a battle for the position of a vice world champion in Moto2, made a positive start to this deciside weekend. He was fastest in the first free practice session and finished second overall, by 70 thousands of a second. The temperature was different in the afternoon and the Swiss rider had grip issues. For his last Moto2 Grand Prix - he will be riding in the World Supersport championship next year - Robin Mulhauser (carXpert Interwetten) was 24th on the first day, ahead of his teammate from Spain, Iker Lecuona (27th). Frédéric Corminboeuf, the boss of CGBM Evolution, sums up the day: "After the super overseas tour and a positive test we did this summer on this circuit of Valencia, Tom struggled quite a bit today. The track conditions are different from what we had during the private test. He is second in the classification but he does not dominate in the same way as in the last weeks. That said, with his technical team we still have a lot of work for tonight and tomorrow morning to prepare for qualifying and then the race. Robin had a good day, maybe the best so far this season; he is relaxed, focused and he is enjoying himself. Today he was able to prove that he can do well. Iker Lecuona is half a second off Top-20; this category is very competitive. We know that our "rookie" improves in each session and it is on Sunday in the race where he is the best."

They said...

Robin Mulhauser (carXpert Interwetten, 24th): "The day was quite good. We were able to work a lot and with each new settings I felt a bit better. I am only 5 tenths from the fifteenth position, I am under no pressure and I am enjoying myself on the bike again. Last year I was at fault during qualifying and my objective tomorrow (Saturday) is to avoid making the same mistake."

Iker Lecuona (carXpert Interwetten, 27th): "This Friday was quite difficult, there are many of us on track and the gaps are so small. The afternoon was already a lot better because I gained a whole second compared to this morning but I want a lot more tomorrow. Compared to overseas, which was new for me and I was learning the circuits and it was difficult to find the limit, I feel a bit more comfortable here because I know the circuit. I will continue to learn this weekend."
